How can we use data to increase access to healthy foods in our community?

About this event

Food provides the foundational blocks for our life. Whether as children where we have little choice what we will be fed. Be that sugary cereals or oatmeal in the morning. Or adults choosing between eating “healthy foods” or “junk foods”. Food has a profound impact on our mood, physicality and our outlook on life. However, not all communities have the same access to “healthy foods” or are aggressively targeted by companies that manufacture low nutrient dense foods (processed foods). This raises questions around how best can we ensure that all communities have an equal opportunity to eat healthfully at a reasonable price.

In a world where we were constantly on the go and “grabbing a quick bite”, let’s take a step back and examine how we can create healthier communities through food. In this session, we’ll hear from experts on the topic of food equity, food scarcity, and food deserts - and how it impacts your life (and those around you).

During this session, we’ll focus on:
– Explore how local food availability impacts our lives — and what we can do about it.
– The logistical challenges of providing equal access to healthy foods.
– How we can balance innovation and regulation, to ensure nutritious food for all!
