The workshop series was an eye opener for me at a time when I was the only data person at my organization. It helped me better speak to stakeholders by providing me with new language to communicate my data pressure points more effectively. Most importantly, it connected me with like-minded practitioners that validated my personal experiences and inspired me with their impassioned commitment to data equity.

I am so glad that I had the opportunity to participate in CGI's Equity + Ethics in Data workshop recently. I found the workshop's content poignant & informative. And I quickly realized that its applicability, in today's data-driven world, extends far beyond what I do daily as a ‘data professional.’ I would highly recommend the course to anyone who works with data, either as a profession or an avocation.

The course made me focus on what information I should collect for my business, and how I can integrate safeguards to protect information along with learning how to create an equitable discussion about starting research on a project along with the controls to consider. I have implemented several of the meeting practices to my meetings to help drive productive conversations. The course was amazing and I recommend for any professional who handles data.

Director, Quality & Risk Management, Encompass Health
I just completed a Healthcare Data Equity 4-week course with LA Tech4Good.
Key takeaways :
1. It is vitally important to ensure data is being collected and interpreted in a consistent way that decreases risk for bias. (This should be a no-brainer, right?)
2. Be careful about the conclusions drawn from data as they might not reflect the entire population served.
3. Equity and equality is not the same.
4. I have SO much more to learn.

I've really enjoyed and appreciated the Ethics + Equity in Data Workshop. I saw myself as an edge case for being appropriate to the group and I'm so glad I didn't opt out for that reason. It was useful to me and I wasn't all that far behind the "real" data people. The small nonprofit scholarship was pretty essential in getting me to attend because my (wrong?!) priorities put this sort of workshop as a nice to have and not something central to our mission. I am so grateful I jumped in. I've loved the readings, speakers, and especially the discussions with my fellow participants. It's been a brain stretching, mode of thinking exercise in knowing the right questions to ask - resulting in not just an increase in my knowledge but more importantly an increase in my skills.

The best part was being able to hear and learn from other people’s experiences and efforts into creating more equitable data practices.
I plan on taking this knowledge into my own work as I expand my own equity design practice. Thank you LA Tech4Good!

Program Manager, Govern for America
Working with LA Tech4Good was a seamless and rewarding experience! LA Tech4Good's team brought their introductory Data Equity training to 15 of Govern for America's Fellows. Their training helped our Fellows understand inequity in data and how to bring more equitable practices back to their work in state government. Our Fellows enjoyed diving into the case study they provided, and having interactive time to discuss data practices. I would highly recommend working with LA Tech4Good!

Within this collaborative learning environment, the DonorSearch Aristotle team spent the past few weeks learning and discussing very important issues around equity and ethics in big data and AI technologies within the nonprofit space. I encourage you to check out the website below for upcoming workshops!

Today I finished "Leading Equitable Data Practices" workshop with LA Tech4Good. It's a great workshop with amazing facilitators that provide resources on data equity and time to have discussion with fellow cohort members from different industries on how to implement data equity.
With AI becoming part of all spheres of our life, workshops like this will help us stop and think about the blind spots, importance of documentation, educate ourselves with tools that we can implement in our own work spaces.
Highly recommend for individuals and companies that collect data or use public data sets.

We just wrapped up LA Tech4Good's Data Equity + Ethics workshop with Rachel Whaley. We spent the last three weeks diving into various ways we bring bias to data and computing and how we can counteract it. Incredibly informative. Anyone working in tech should go through it.

LA Tech4Good’s Data Equity sessions are digestible and well-paced (no stuffy lectures), and you’re grouped with like-minded, passionate learners who contribute their own valuable perspectives and insights to each lesson. I most appreciated the approaches we learned to tackle inequities in our own data projects, along with the very useful take-home materials to guide us. Highly recommend everyone to attend this series – regardless of one’s expertise in data and/or data equity!
