ABOUT THE EVENT

Join us on March 6th for a hackathon on food insecurity in Los Angeles for Open Data Day. According to a recent USC survey, 25% of Los Angeles County households have experienced food insecurity since the start of the pandemic. According to that study, 82% of residents who are food insecure are low income and 50% have children in the household.

The goal of this event is to help connect residents with on the ground resources and organizations that can help. This event will also provide an opportunity to deliver better information tools to nonprofits and policy leaders to help guide their decision making around food policy.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE:

  • People with an interest in research, policy, food insecurity

  • People with experience in data science, data visualization, business analytics

  • People with design experience

  • People with product management experience

  • And more! Build a team and come together! Or get matched on the day-of.

WHAT’S EXPECTED AT THE END OF THE DAY:

  • Present a prototype of your project

  • Describe the intended audience, impact

  • List data sources used
