We're excited to be part of our first Good Tech Fest! Eva Sachar and Cindy Lin will be speakkng on May 4 at 7am PT/ 10am ET. Save the time and the date and join their session!

You’ve convinced me, I want data ethics and equity now, but how? Where do I start?

In a world where data and algorithms are increasingly being used to help supplement human decision making, how do we ensure it isn’t enforcing existing inequities? We’re not surprised to hear when algorithms disadvantage marginalized individuals like with credit ratings, predictive policing, racist chatbots, candidate scoring, and so many more - data inappropriately used because the social context was missed. We need to understand that these are just big, public examples of mistakes we are all at risk of making in our jobs, so how do we avoid them? Better yet, what if we could use data to make real, positive change in the world? In this session, we’ll talk through a bottom-up approach to introducing ethical and equitable data practices at your organization. You’ll leave with an understanding of what tools and frameworks you can use to gain leadership buy-in, implement better technical practices, and sustain your impact.
