  • Phase Two 5877 Obama Boulevard Los Angeles, CA, 90016 United States (map)

Emily Conant, Data Scientist, Nexleaf Analytics
Emily will present on data analytics tools Nexleaf uses to help communities in low-income countries transition from polluting forms of cooking to clean energy alternatives. Biomass pollution from cooking is a prevalent and hazardous problem affecting 3 billion people worldwide and contributes to ~25% of anthropogenic black carbon emissions. With data gathered from clean cooking initiatives in India and Nigeria, Nexleaf advocates for new approaches to clean energy adoption.

Dena Montague, Research Associate, UC Santa Barbara
Increased investment in solar projects in the Sahel Region of Africa, while positive, also exposes critical gaps in data that hinder substantive progress towards widespread solar access.  Dena will discuss a project currently under design by the Global Environmental Justice Project to address fundamental issues largely ignored by current programs to expand access to solar energy.

Gabriel René, Executive Director, VERSES Labs & Foundation
VERSES, in partnership with Yale's Open Climate Initiative, are building a platform to track carbon credits for countries that have signed on to the Paris accords to ensure that emission reduction goals are met.
